Pioneers Continue to Shine During Busy Track Season

HAYWARD, Calif. -
Both Pioneer women's and men's track teams continue to perform well during the 2011 season.

On February 26, the Pioneers competed in the Rossi Relays, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College.
Nancy Velazquez led the Pioneers' performance in the 3000 meters with a 13th place finish in 10:53.15. Amanda McNabb was timed in 11:22.22 to place 25th. Gabriella Cruz and Megan McDaniel finished 33rd and 35th respectively.

Erik Rodriguez finished in 45th place to lead the men's showing in the 3000 meters. Rodriguez covered the 3000 meter course in 9:43.56. Scott Pallesen recorded a time of 9:54.46 good for 50th place. Antonio Arredondo finished 56th in 10:24.31 while John Erlandson placed 61st with a time of 10:44.56.

On March 12, at the Aggie Open, Velazquez recorded a time of 2:29.85 to finish 20th in the 800 meters. Tiffany Duffy was right behind in 21st place with a time of 2:29.91. Velazquez ran a time of 4:57.81 to place 16th in the 1500 meters. Nastassia Hamor was 29th in 5:11.13.

Competing in his first meet of the season, Justin Landry recorded a time of 11.59 to finish 26th in the 100 meters. Chris Gallagher posted a time of 4:17.33 to place 31st in the 1500 meters.

At the Shamrock 5K Run in Dublin, California on March 13, McNabb was the Pioneers top finisher and seventh fastest female in the race as she placed 58th overall. McNabb covered the 5K course in 20:31.
Velazquez was 60th and the eighth fastest female in the race with a time of 20:34. Hamor finished 67th in 20:50 while Duffy placed 71st in 21:08.

On the men's side, Francisco Pulido turned in an impressive time of 17:20 to earn eighth place honors. John Vergara was 19th in 18:12 while Erlandson recorded a time of 18:29 to finish in 26th place.
