Velazquez and Gallagher Lead the Way for Pioneers at Pomona Pitzer Invite

POMONA, Calif. - Led by Nancy Velazquez and Chris Gallagher, the Pioneer track teams had a good outing at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on April 9.

After posting a time of 2:35.20 at the Hornet Invitational on March 19, Velazquez improved that outing with a 2:20.86 clocking in the 800 meters. Velazquez finished 24th out of 87 runners.

In the 1500 meters, Velazquez placed 31st with a time of 4:58.58. Tiffany Duffy was clocked in 5:12.19 to finish in 52nd place.

Gabriella Cruz was 50th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 20:48.54.

Gallagher led the men's team with a strong performance in the 1500 meters. He finished with a season-best time of 4:17.56 to place 63rd out of 98 competitors.

The Pioneers had three runners compete in the 5000 meters. Erik Rodriguez (16:38.27) and John Erlandson (16:41.09) ran 51st and 52nd respectively. Francisco Pulido was 61st with a time of 17:37.87.
