HAYWARD, Calif. — The awards keep piling up for Cal State East Bay hurler Sean Becker. On Tuesday, the junior was named West Region Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for the week of Mar. 4-10. This is Becker's second time winning the award in three weeks.

The right-hander from San Fernando has been on a remarkable run over the last few weeks of CCAA play. He earned both the CCAA and West Region weekly honors after his nine-strikeout, complete game shutout of Cal State Stanislaus on Feb. 24. The following week, Becker tossed eight scoreless frames en route to a narrow 2-0 victory over No. 13 Sonoma State. Then on Saturday, he carved up the Cal State San Bernardino lineup for nine innings, allowing just three hits, one walk, and an unearned run.

During those three starts, Becker rattled off 20 consecutive innings without issuing a walk. He has now pitched 26 straight innings without giving up an earned run.

For the season, Becker is 4-1 and ranks seventh in the CCAA with a 1.32 ERA. He has allowed just four walks in 41.0 innings. The junior is the first Pioneer to be a two-time winner of the NCBWA's West Region Pitcher of the Week award.
