HAYWARD, Calif. — Cal State East Bay's head men's basketball coach Gus Argenal has announced the signing of Darrick McIntosh to a National Letter of Intent for the 2013-14 season. A 6'8" center from Logan, Utah, McIntosh was a defensive standout last season at the College of Marin.

"Darrick has the ultimate team-first attitude and mindset," said Argenal. "He has the ability to score in the paint, but most importantly, he takes pride in his defense and rebounding. We are excited to bring in another student-athlete from a successful local program like College of Marin."

McIntosh played in a team-high 24 games for Marin in 2012-13, helping the Mariners to a 16-10 overall record. He was the team's leading rebounder and averaged just over a block per game.

Prior to his junior college career, McIntosh was a prep star at Logan High School in Utah. A first-team All-State selection as a senior, he averaged a double-double and led Logan to the Utah 3A State Championship game. He was also twice named Defensive Player of the Year by the Cache Valley Basketball Academy.

"Darrick is a player who does all the things necessary to win basketball games," said Dave Granucci, head men's basketball coach at College of Marin. "He can rebound, defend, run the floor, and is a great screen setter on and off the ball. Darrick has great feet for a guy his size, which will serve him well in an athletic league like the CCAA. He's a complete team player, but also a young man yet to reach his full potential. There is definitely room for Darrick to improve, and he has the work ethic to do so. Cal State East Bay is getting a terrific student-athlete."

McIntosh will provide much-needed size down low for the Pioneers, who return only one regular starter from last year's frontcourt in forward Ryan Hebebrand.
