HAYWARD, Calif. -- Cal State East Bay head men's basketball coach
Gus Argenal has announced that Tracy High School senior Druce Asah has committed to the Pioneers for the 2015-16 season. Asah, who received a two-star scouting grade from ESPN in the spring, signed a National Letter of Intent on Thursday, the first day of the NCAA signing period.
"We are fired up to have Druce join our Pioneer family," said Argenal. "He is an explosive scorer, who has range and athleticism to get to the rim. At Tracy, he has been coached by Hayward native Junior Cueva, who stresses toughness, competing, and leadership. We see Druce playing an integral part in the future of Cal State East Bay basketball."A 6'3" guard from Tracy, Calif., Asah is entering his final season of prep competition. As a junior in 2013-14, he averaged 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists per game for the Bulldogs, including a career high 28 points in game against Oakdale High School.
ESPN ranked Asah as the 89th-best player in the state of California, noting in his scouting report that Asah posseses "a Division I frame," "a legitimate pull-up jump shot," "solid ball skills," and "the strength and lateral quickness to be a lock-down defender."
