WEEKLY RECAP
The CSUEB men got off to a rocky start to their CCAA schedule last weekend at home. They were bested 83-52 on Friday night by a very talented Cal Poly Pomona squad. The following night, East Bay fell to UC San Diego, 75-65, as the Tritons were able to pull away late.  The Pioneers struggled to find their rhythem on offense, shooting under 37 percent as a team in both contests. They rebounded well, but combined to make just seven of 30 attempts from three-point range on the weekend.

SPRING IN HIS STEP
Junior Juawnn Springfield was East Bay's leading scorer in both games last week, which earned him CSUEB Male Athlete of the Week honors. The Fremont native averaged 13.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in the two games, while shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 78.6 percent from the free throw line (11-for-14).

GREAT ON THE GLASS
Junior Jack Pasquini has made a big impression in his first season as a Pioneer. He grabbed 10 rebounds against UCSD on Saturday, which was his third time in seven games reaching double figures. He currently averages 8.6 boards per game, which ranks second among all CCAA players.

CLIMBING THE RANKS
Senior Jacari Whitfield became CSUEB's all-time leader in career three-pointers in the team's overtime loss to Menlo. In the last game against the Tritons, he had eight points, including two buckets from beyond the arc, which brings his career total to 142.

Whitfield also leads the CCAA with 30 assists so far this season. He enters the weekend with 261 career assists, which ranks seventh in school history. The San Francisco native needs just 10 more to move into sixth place past Mike Wood, who is also CSUEB's all-time leading scorer.

OUTLOOK ON THE OTTERS
CSUMB has a 4-3 record, which includes an impressive non-conference win over Dominican. They split their CCAA games last weekend, losing by nine to Pomona, but topping UC San Diego 64-62. The Otters are shooting 46.1 percent from the field as a team, averaging 71.1 points per game, and allowing 73.4 points to their opponents. Monterey Bay is led by Evan Zeller (16.6 ppg, 3.7 apg), the second-leading scorer in the conference, along with Alex Fertig (12.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg), and Greg Anderson (11.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 52.7 FG%).

In the all-time series between the Otters and Pioneers, CSUEB holds a 13-9 advantage. Since East Bay joined the CCAA in 2010, the series is tied 5-5. The squads split their games in 2013-14, with each school winning at home.
