HAYWARD, Calif. -- Cal State East Bay head men's basketball coach Gus Argenal has announced the final three additions to his coaching staff for the 2014-15 season. Former Pioneer star Gabe Kindred and former Saint Mary's guard Wayne Hunter begin their first seasons as collegiate coaches, and Concord native Kyle Williams returns for his second year as a member of the CSUEB program.

"Our players deserve the best mentors and role models possible, and I believe these three men exemplify what it means to be a Pioneer," said Argenal. "Gabe had a special career as a player here and will bring his passion and loyalty to our culture. Wayne also played at an extremely high level in a championship environment, and his experiences will motivate and inspire our current student-athletes. Kyle is as hard-working as any young coach I have ever been around and is dedicated to the development of our young men. Our brotherhood starts and ends with great people, and these are the types of individuals who shape leaders."

Kindred played at Cal State East Bay for the past two seasons after spending one year each at Loyola University (Chicago) and Salt Lake Community College. He was the Pioneers' leading scorer both seasons and ranked fifth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with 16.0 points per game as a senior. He was the second-best three-point shooter in the league at 45.6 percent and set CSUEB program records for most free throws made in a season (154) and a game (16). Kindred played in all 54 games for the Pioneers in 2012-13 and 2013-14, and his career free throw percentage of 75.1 ranks sixth in school history.

Hunter played four seasons at Saint Mary's College and was a member of the program's first West Coast Conference Tournament Championship team. Two of his Gael squads qualified for the NCAA Division I Tournament, including a run to the Sweet Sixteen his senior year. A native of Sacramento, Hunter played in 96 games at SMC and averaged 11.0 points and 3.0 rebounds as a senior.

After graduating in 2010, he spent one year as the head JV coach and varsity assistant at Richmond High School, followed by two years as the JV head coach and varsity assistant at Oakland Technical High School. Hunter spent three years teaching social studies and physical education and mentoring in the after-school program at Saint Martin de Porres Catholic School, and he has also worked as a personal trainer for the last two years.

Williams begins his second season assisting with Argenal's program as he completes his degree in kinesiology. A 2002 graduate of Ygnacio Valley High School, he has a great deal of experience coaching at the prep level. Williams spent one year as the varsity assistant coach and one year as the head freshman coach at his alma mater, and then he went onto serve as a varisty assistant at Dougherty Valley High School. Kyle worked at the Santa Clara University basketball camp in 2009. He also spent seven years at the Championship Basketball Camp in Pleasanton and served as the assistant camp director in 2006.

Kindred, Hunter, and Williams join fellow assistant coaches Jay Flores and Daniel Eberhardt to give Argenal a full staff of former athletes for this season. Fans can catch their first glimpse of the 2014-15 Pioneers during the annual Basketball Madness event on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. in Pioneer Gymnasium.
