Kindred Re-Joins Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

HAYWARD, Calif. -- Cal State East Bay head men's basketball coach Gus Argenal has announced the addition of former Pioneer guard Gabe Kindred to the coaching staff for the 2016-17 season.

"I'm extremely excited to be back at a place in which I have so much pride," Kindred said. "I think the pieces are in place for the Pioneers to compete at a high level and I look forward to being a part of that. I'm excited to get started right away with the staff and student-athletes."

Kindred first came to East Bay in 2012 after competing for one year each at Division I Loyola Chicago and Salt Lake Community College. He played two seasons for the Pioneers and led the team in scoring both years. As a senior in 2013-14, Kindred led the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in made free throws (154), and he ranked in the top five in scoring (16.0 ppg) and three-point percentage (.456).

The Oakland native scored 728 career points for the Pioneers. He holds program records for free throws made in a season (154) and in a single game (16-for-16). He also finished his career ranked seventh in school history with a free throw percentage of .751.

This will be Kindred's second stint as an assistant coach under Argenal. After completing his eligibility, Kindred stayed on with the Pioneers as an assistant for the 2014-15 season.

After completing his bachelor's degree at CSUEB in 2015, Kindred was accepted into the Master's program for educational leadership at the University of Nevada, and he spent the 2015-16 season as an assistant coach for the Wolfpack under Eric Musselman.
