ATHERTON, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's basketball ended a two-game losing streak with a 66-42 victory over Menlo College on Sunday afternoon. Coming off a week-long break from competition, the Pioneers (3-4) shot 41 percent from the field and dominated on the glass to earn their third non-conference win of the season.

Hege Blikra both reached double figures in scoring for East Bay, with Lucchesi posting a game-high 15 points and Blikra adding a season-high 10 points. Lucchesi helped the Pioneers shoot 42.1 percent from three-point range, knocking down four of her five shots from beyond the arc, including a perfect 3-for-3 performance in the first half. Meanwhile, Blikra went 4-for-7 from the field with a pair of threes and five rebounds.
Junior
Marlene MacMillan led the East Bay rebounding efforts, setting a new season high with 13 rebounds, while adding seven points. Lucchesi supplemented MacMillan's contribution with six rebounds to help the Pioneers out-rebound the Oaks by 18, 47-29.
“Mac was great on the glass again tonight,” Barcomb said. “ Tonight she got help from teammates, as well. Hege, Mac and Lu also shot the ball well.”
Though Cal State East Bay found shooting success from the field, including a 9-for-20 performance from the floor in the second half, it again struggled to knock down its free throws. After going a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe in the first half, East Bay missed nine of its 19 foul shots in the second frame to finish under 70 percent from the line for the third straight game.
Carly Tristao led Menlo with 11 points, while Lauren Adamek added eight points. Tristao, Alexandria Collier and Erika Garcia tied for the team lead with five boards apiece. The Oaks finished the game shooting 29 percent from the field and struggled from three-point range where they went just 2-for-9. Menlo also had a bad night at the charity stripe, shooting 52.6 percent in 19 chances.
The Pioneers took an early lead and held onto it throughout the remainder of the game. East Bay carried a 15-point lead into the half after shooting 38.9 percent from the field in the first frame, led by Lucchesi's nine points from long range.
Leading 35-20 at the half, the Pioneers continued to control the game in the second frame, knocking down 50 percent of their shots from three-point range and getting to the free-throw line 17 times. On the other end, the Oaks shot just 27.6 percent from the field and hit only one three-pointer in five attempts in the second half.
Cal State East Bay returns to action on Wednesday, when it plays host to Notre Dame de Namur in its final non-conference matchup of the season. The Pioneers and Argonauts are set for a 5:30 p.m. tip at Pioneer Gym.
