Box Score CARSON, Calif. – With just four weeks and nine games remaining in the regular season, the Cal State East Bay women's basketball team dropped its second straight tight game on the road to Cal State Dominguez Hills, 58-53, on Saturday night at the Toro Dome. The Pioneers (6-13, 3-10 CCAA) out-rebounded the Toros and got 31 points from the bench, but could not overcome a hot-shooting Cal State Dominguez Hills team that shot nearly 50 percent from the floor and hit seven threes.

For the fifth straight game, sophomore Brianna Terrance scored in double figures, leading all players with 18 points in 23 minutes off the bench for East Bay. Terrance went 9-for-15 from the field and added five boards. Meanwhile, junior Marlene MacMillan posted her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Cassie Coble posted 11 points off the bench to give the Pioneers three players in double figures in scoring.

Lauren Lucchesi added seven points and four boards, while Micah Walker was second on the team with six rebounds and notched four points and a team-leading five assists. As a team, East Bay finished shooting 38.2 percent from the floor, but went cold from three-point range, going 0-for-10 from beyond the arc. The Pioneers held a 37-24 advantage on the boards and scored 10 points off of 15 offensive rebounds. East Bay's bench was again crucial, out-scoring the Dominguez Hills' reserves 31-11.

Cal State Dominguez Hills had two players score in double digits, led by Porcha Davis' 17 points. Lyndsay Heard joined Davis with 10 points, while Nikki Boutte' added nine and Sherrie Hughes paced the Toros on the boards with six rebounds. The Toros had the hot hand all night, shooting 48.9 percent from the field, including a 13-for-19 performance in the second half.

In a low-scoring first half, Cal State Dominguez Hills got out to a 13-8 lead midway through the half, but the Pioneers responded with an 8-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 16-13 advantage with just under six minutes remaining in the half. Tiffany Smith ended the Toro drought with a jumper to cut the lead to just one, 16-15. Though East Bay opened up a four-point lead on a bucket from Coble, CSUDH answered back and tied the game at 21 on back-to-back threes from Boutte' with three minutes left to play. From there, the Toros held the Pioneers without a point over the final 3:34, scoring seven straight to end the first half with a 28-21 advantage.

Cal State Dominguez Hills continued to hold the advantage early in the second half, opening with an 11-8 run to take a 39-29 lead with 14:05 to play. East Bay pulled back momentum with a 13-7 run that saw Coble score four points, MacMillan add three and the Toros commit three turnovers. Leading by just two points, 44-42, with 8:06 to play, the Toros managed to hold onto the lead, but the Pioneers continued to answer every Dominguez Hills' bucket. Down 48-44, East Bay scored four straight to tie the game at 48 before going cold while the Toros went on an 8-0 run to take a 56-48 lead with 2:41 to play.

Down by eight with just under two minutes remaining, Lucchesi put the Pioneers into the bonus with a basket and the first of two straight fouls by CSUDH. Coble followed with a pair of makes from the charity stripe to cut the lead to four, 56-52 with 1:53 remaining. With under a minute to play, Heard made it a seven-point game with a jumper to give the Toros a 58-52 lead and an 11-4 run for Cal State Dominguez Hills. Though Coble cut the lead to six with a free throw under 30 seconds to play, the Toros held on for the win thanks in part to a block from Davis.

Cal State East Bay continues the four-game road swing next weekend at Humboldt State and Sonoma State. The Pioneers and Jacks are set to tip at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2 at Lumberjack Arena in Arcata.
