Alex Lopez joined Cal State East Bay in September 2023 as Sports Performance Coach. He oversees all aspects of strength, speed and conditioning in the Pioneers' 14 intercollegiate athletic programs.
Prior to East Bay, he was a Sports Performance Coach at UC Santa Barbara beginning in July 2021. Initially hired as a part-time sports performance coach, he was quickly promoted to full-time status at UCSB. There, he worked directly with men's soccer, baseball, men's water polo, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's swim, men's golf, and cross country. In hist first year, Alex helped the men's soccer team to their first Big West Tournament Championship since 2010 and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Lopez received his Masters of Science in Health and Human Performance from the University of Montana in May 2021, where he also spent two years as a graduate assistant athletic performance coach. As a graduate assistant, he worked primarily with Montana's football program, a perennial contender in the FCS.
He has also served as intern at Stanford, Colorado State University and Cal State Monterey Bay.
Lopez also holds a CSCS certification.
